Bonnard House

Founded in 1988 by Frédéric and Rolland Bonnard, Maison Bonnard is located on the limestone hillsides of Montagnieu, in the heart of the Bugey wine region, between the Jura and Savoie regions. The estate now extends over 16 hectares, having obtained organic farming certification in 2016. The viticulture practiced is biodynamic, with particular attention paid to soil health and biodiversity. Vinification is carried out on a parcel-by-parcel basis, with no added sulfur, and relies on indigenous yeasts for fermentation. Maison Bonnard wines are matured without the use of oenological aids, with only a slight sulfiting during bottling to ensure stability. This natural approach results in wines that express the unique terroir of Montagnieu. The domaine cultivates Burgundian grape varieties such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gamay, which reach a high level of expression on these limestone soils. However, it's the Mondeuses and Altesses that particularly stand out, rivaling the best expressions of these grapes in Savoie. Mondeuse, in particular, offers rich, spicy wines, while Altesse, also known as Roussette, produces aromatic white wines. In recent years, the new generation represented by Romain and Anne-Sophie have joined their uncle Rolland and father Frédéric, breathing new life into the domaine. Their contemporary vision and dynamism enable them to perpetuate and improve the estate's traditional practices, while integrating environmentally-friendly innovations. The intergenerational collaboration at Maison Bonnard is an example of the successful transmission of winegrowing know-how, combining tradition and modernity. Their commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture continues to produce high quality wines.
