Founded in 1988 by Frédéric and Rolland Bonnard, Maison Bonnard is located on the limestone hillsides of Montagnieu, in the heart of the Bugey wine region, between the Jura and Savoie. This estate now covers 16 hectares, having obtained organic farming certification in 2016. The viticulture practiced is biodynamic, with particular attention paid to soil health and biodiversity. Vinification is done by plot and without added sulfur, relying on indigenous yeasts for fermentation. Maison Bonnard wines are aged without oenological artifice, with only a light sulfiting during bottling to ensure stability. This natural approach produces expressive wines from the unique terroir of Montagnieu. The estate cultivates Burgundy grape varieties such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gamay, which achieve a high level of expression on these limestone soils. However, it is the Mondeuses and Altesses that particularly stand out, rivaling the best expressions of these grape varieties in Savoie. Mondeuse, in particular, offers rich, spicy wines, while Altesse, also known as Roussette, produces aromatic white wines. In recent years, the new generation represented by Romain and Anne-Sophie has joined their uncle Rolland and father Frédéric, bringing a breath of fresh air to the estate. Their contemporary vision and dynamism allow the estate to perpetuate and improve on its traditional practices, while incorporating environmentally friendly innovations. The intergenerational collaboration within Maison Bonnard is an example of the successful transmission of winemaking know-how, combining tradition and modernity. Their commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture continues to produce high-quality wines.

Who are we ?

Created in 2010, Vinograf was taken over in July 2024 by Clara & Baptiste. With their experience with Marée Haute, they work to perpetuate Vinograf's strong commitments: a careful selection of established or novice artisan winemakers, all driven by the concern for excellence in their practices, in the magnification of terroirs and the search for authenticity of taste.

Several specifications correspond to these names. If we very often hear about sulphites, rightly accused of giving a headache, many other products can be used in the composition of so-called conventional wines.
Here is an overview of the different organic, biodynamic and natural specifications:
The organic specifications (AB label) prohibit any use of synthetic chemicals in the vineyards and in the winery. However, it allows some oenological crutches during winemaking. Sulfites, for example, are tolerated up to 100 mg/L for red wines and 150 mg/L for whites.

In biodynamics (Demeter or Biodyvin label), the winemaker not only works without synthetic chemicals, but also takes into account the lunar calendar for all the operations he carries out. He will also use biodynamic preparations (fermented horn dung, silica, plant herbal tea, etc.) to strengthen the vines. Overall, the winegrower seeks to include the cultivation of the vine in a global environment. Sulphites can go up to 70 mg/L for reds and 90 mg/L for whites.

In natural wine (Vin Method Nature label), the specifications specify the use of organic grapes, fermenting naturally using native yeasts (as in biodynamics). Natural wines see no input during all vinification and aging. Only minimum doses of SO2 are permitted (30 mg/L maximum), and must be mentioned by the winemaker. No brutal filtration or wine alteration techniques are permitted. We also find the name SAINS Wines which aims to completely prohibit the use of sulphites.

We strive to offer you wines from artisan wines, from estates on a human scale and often family-owned. And that's why we take the time to travel across France from vineyard to vineyard in search of these natural wines that thrill us.
We are particularly keen to introduce you to the new winegrowers of tomorrow who work tirelessly to offer us magnificent wines.
