Jules Métras

Jules Métras, son of renowned winemaker Yvon Métras, began his winemaking career in 2014 after training at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune and gaining experience abroad. On his return to the Beaujolais region, Jules began working alongside his father, managing the old Beaujolais-villages vines located around the family winery in Vauxrenard. Over the years, Jules gradually extended his vineyard. He took over plots of Beaujolais-villages that had belonged to Jules Chauvet, an emblematic figure in natural viticulture, and also added plots of Chiroubles, thus expanding his estate. Jules and Yvon's vineyard management is marked by a profound respect for nature. They work the soil without using chemicals, thus promoting biodiversity and the health of the vines. Harvesting is carried out late and by hand, allowing the grapes to be picked at perfect maturity. In the cellar, Jules uses gentle, precise winemaking methods, notably carbonic maceration. This technique, which consists of fermenting whole bunches in an atmosphere saturated with carbon dioxide, extracts fruity aromas and produces wines of great finesse. Jules does not use sulfites, relying entirely on the natural yeasts present in the grapes for fermentation. Jules Métras wines are distinguished by their density and minerality. They reflect the natural, respectful approach of the new generation of Beaujolais winemakers. This working philosophy aims to produce authentic wines that fully express the terroir and varietal characteristics.
