Jean-Claude Rateau , a renowned winemaker, began his wine adventure in 1979 in Burgundy, by creating his own estate from a few family vines. Alongside his wine studies, he toured France, enriching his know-how.
From the beginning, he was influenced by experts such as Claude Bourguignon and Yves Hérody , and became one of the first to adopt biodynamics in Burgundy. His passion for the environment and sustainable practices led him to cultivate his vines biodynamically and to commit to respectful viticulture, with organic certification (Ecocert).
From his modest beginnings with 2 hectares, Jean-Claude Rateau gradually expanded his estate, reaching today 8 hectares spread over 15 plots in 12 different terroirs. He makes a point of honor to vinify each plot individually to preserve the purity and expression of each terroir.
Jean-Claude is also recognized for his expertise and passion for viticulture. He is known for his captivating talks on the history of the vine and Burgundy grape varieties, demonstrating his deep respect for the winemaking tradition.
Today, the Rateau estate offers a complete range of white and red wines , offering fine , expressive vintages that are representative of Burgundy. Jean-Claude Rateau remains a committed winemaker, combining tradition and innovation to produce wines of remarkable quality.
