Camille & Mathieu Apffel
Domaine Mathieu Apffel , led by the duo Camille and Mathieu Apffel , brilliantly embodies this young generation which is revitalizing the vineyards of Savoie , a region in full revival. Based in Saint-Baldoph , between Chambéry and Apremont , since 2017 , Mathieu , originally from the Jura , now cultivates a little more than 5 hectares biodynamically , on soils rich in clay , limestone and marl , at the foot of Mont Granier .
The couple highlights indigenous grape varieties – Jacquère , Altesse , but also Mondeuse (planted in the heart of the Massif des Bauges ) – as well as varieties such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay , always worked with the same rigor.
Since their beginnings, they have championed organic viticulture , focused on biodiversity and respectful agricultural practices. In the cellar, the line remains the same: natural vinification , indigenous yeasts , no inputs , and sometimes zero added sulfur .
Their vintages reveal great precision , an elegant mouthfeel, and a pure expression of Alpine terroirs . Not to be missed: "Avant la tempête" , a chiseled and mineral Jacquère , a true reflection of the Savoyard mountains . An estate to follow very closely in the natural wine landscape.
