Jean-François Ganevat

Jean-François Ganevat, often nicknamed "Fanfan", is an iconic winemaker in the Jura region. In 1998, after working as cellar master at Jean-Marc Morey in Chassagne-Montrachet,  Burgundy, he took over the family domaine at La Combe de Rotalier with his sister Anne, representing the 14th generation of the family to manage this vineyard. The 13-hectare estate has been biodynamically farmed since 2006. The domaine produces over 50 cuvées each year, using a wide variety of local grape varieties, including rare and ancient varieties such as Petit Béclan, Gros Béclan, and Poulsard Blanc. Jean-François Ganevat is known for his natural, minimalist approach to winemaking, using only indigenous yeasts, with no added sulfur, filtration or fining. Anne Ganevat, who works alongside her brother, plays a very important role in the management of the estate and the making of the wines. Together, they have developed an impressive range of wines, from classic Jura wines such as vin jaune and crémant du Jura, to more experimental and innovative cuvées from their négoce, which include grapes from other regions such as Alsace, Savoie and Beaujolais. Their wines are renowned for their purity, precision and ability to express the unique terroir of the Jura. Domaine Ganevat has become a benchmark for lovers of natural, terroir-driven wines, making a major contribution to the international renown of Jura wines.
