Les 13 Lunes
Domaine des 13 Lunes is located high up in the Chartreuse Natural Park, on Savoie, on the edge of the forest, providing a unique setting for the creation of mountain wines. Nestled at an altitude of 500 meters, the vines don't seem very high, yet the majestic Mont Granier that overlooks them stretches over 1500 meters higher. And it plays an essential role in regulating the climate. It can decide whether the region is cold or hot, protected or exposed to storms. The estate, managed by Sylvain Liotard, is mainly characterized by local grape varieties such as Jacquère, Altesse, Mondeuse, Gamay and Velteliner. All the vines here are grown organically and biodynamically. The terroir, formed by a major landslide in the 13th century, is rich in limestone of various sizes, mixed with silt and clay in varying proportions. The vines are planted in close rows, with a density of 7,500 to 10,000 vines per hectare. Biodynamic viticulture involves careful attention to the soil, disease prevention, the use of herbal decoctions and teas, and minimal intervention in the winemaking process. Traditional practices, such as the application of horn dung and horn silica, minimal doses of copper, a little sulfur, herbal teas and the use of indigenous yeasts, are favored by Sylvain and his team.
