Located on the same rocky plateau as Saint-Emilion and Pomerol and overlooking the magnificent Dordogne Valley, Le Puy has proudly sat for over 400 years (since 1610) on the second highest geodetic point in the Gironde department. Here 15 generations have succeeded one another. A true model in the history of natural wine in the Bordeaux vineyard, the Amoreau family produces wines without chemical inputs, remaining faithful to its ancestral peasant values: it was Jean Amoreau (Pascal Amoreau's great-grandfather) who decided to completely refuse the use of chemicals in both the vineyard and the winery. Le Puy also became one of the first certified Bordeaux estates to produce organic wine in 1964 and to manually protect the corks of its bottles with a wax coating, a technique that limits the exchange of oxygen between the wine and the outside world, widely used today, particularly in the world of natural wine. The wines are frank, sincere and marked by the unique experience of this family, like the flagship red vintages: Emilien and Barthélémy. 1996 marked the birth of their first vintage of white wine, today particularly sought after, these plots of pre-phylloxera Sémillon give us today the magnificent Marie-Cécile and Marie-Elisa vintages. Since then, the estate has also been working on the reintroduction of old Bordeaux grape varieties in order to counter the influence of climate change. Thus, they are relaunching the planting of grape varieties such as Counoise, Grolleau, Chenanson or Castets. Another significant event in the life of the estate was the consecration in 2009 of Le Puy in the manga with global success Les Gouttes de Dieu where the 2003 Emilien vintage is consecrated as the best wine in the world!

Who are we ?

Created in 2010, Vinograf was taken over in July 2024 by Clara & Baptiste. With their experience with Marée Haute, they work to perpetuate Vinograf's strong commitments: a careful selection of established or novice artisan winemakers, all driven by the concern for excellence in their practices, in the magnification of terroirs and the search for authenticity of taste.

Several specifications correspond to these names. If we very often hear about sulphites, rightly accused of giving a headache, many other products can be used in the composition of so-called conventional wines.
Here is an overview of the different organic, biodynamic and natural specifications:
The organic specifications (AB label) prohibit any use of synthetic chemicals in the vineyards and in the winery. However, it allows some oenological crutches during winemaking. Sulfites, for example, are tolerated up to 100 mg/L for red wines and 150 mg/L for whites.

In biodynamics (Demeter or Biodyvin label), the winemaker not only works without synthetic chemicals, but also takes into account the lunar calendar for all the operations he carries out. He will also use biodynamic preparations (fermented horn dung, silica, plant herbal tea, etc.) to strengthen the vines. Overall, the winegrower seeks to include the cultivation of the vine in a global environment. Sulphites can go up to 70 mg/L for reds and 90 mg/L for whites.

In natural wine (Vin Method Nature label), the specifications specify the use of organic grapes, fermenting naturally using native yeasts (as in biodynamics). Natural wines see no input during all vinification and aging. Only minimum doses of SO2 are permitted (30 mg/L maximum), and must be mentioned by the winemaker. No brutal filtration or wine alteration techniques are permitted. We also find the name SAINS Wines which aims to completely prohibit the use of sulphites.

We strive to offer you wines from artisan wines, from estates on a human scale and often family-owned. And that's why we take the time to travel across France from vineyard to vineyard in search of these natural wines that thrill us.
We are particularly keen to introduce you to the new winegrowers of tomorrow who work tirelessly to offer us magnificent wines.
