François Dumas, originally from Véranne in the Loire, discovered his passion for vines in 2004 during a season at Cuilleron. Initially destined to become a sports teacher, he changed paths to train in viticulture and oenology, obtaining a BPREA in Tournon. He then worked for renowned winemakers such as Jean-Louis Chave in Hermitage and Jean-Louis Trapet in Gevrey-Chambertin, where he honed his skills before going solo. In 2010, François settled in Véranne and produced his first vintage. Three years later, he took over plots in Saint-Joseph and Condrieu. Today, he cultivates around 4 hectares of vines organically, with organic certification in progress. François is deeply committed to rigorous organic viticulture, influenced by natural farming principles such as those of Masanobu Fukuoka. He avoids bare soils and experiments with various natural methods, often at the expense of immediate profitability. The soil is worked without chemicals, and François favors natural winemaking. He uses indigenous yeasts for fermentation and limits the use of sulfur to very low levels. This approach produces authentic wines that faithfully reflect their terroir. François Dumas embodies a new generation of winemakers, combining tradition and innovation. His wines, marked by a rigorous organic approach and natural winemaking, offer a refreshing rediscovery of the terroirs of the Northern Rhône. With a limited but high-quality production, François continues to captivate wine lovers with his sincere and elegant vintages. His commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly practices makes him a model in the field of organic viticulture. By rediscovering and interpreting the terroirs of the Northern Rhône, François makes a significant contribution to modern viticulture. François Dumas is distinguished by his dedication to quality and authenticity. His wines reflect not only the unique characteristics of the plots he cultivates, but also his passion for innovation and tradition. Each bottle is the result of meticulous work and a deep respect for nature, making his vintages remarkable examples of what organic and natural viticulture can offer.

Who are we ?

Created in 2010, Vinograf was taken over in July 2024 by Clara & Baptiste. With their experience with Marée Haute, they work to perpetuate Vinograf's strong commitments: a careful selection of established or novice artisan winemakers, all driven by the concern for excellence in their practices, in the magnification of terroirs and the search for authenticity of taste.

Several specifications correspond to these names. If we very often hear about sulphites, rightly accused of giving a headache, many other products can be used in the composition of so-called conventional wines.
Here is an overview of the different organic, biodynamic and natural specifications:
The organic specifications (AB label) prohibit any use of synthetic chemicals in the vineyards and in the winery. However, it allows some oenological crutches during winemaking. Sulfites, for example, are tolerated up to 100 mg/L for red wines and 150 mg/L for whites.

In biodynamics (Demeter or Biodyvin label), the winemaker not only works without synthetic chemicals, but also takes into account the lunar calendar for all the operations he carries out. He will also use biodynamic preparations (fermented horn dung, silica, plant herbal tea, etc.) to strengthen the vines. Overall, the winegrower seeks to include the cultivation of the vine in a global environment. Sulphites can go up to 70 mg/L for reds and 90 mg/L for whites.

In natural wine (Vin Method Nature label), the specifications specify the use of organic grapes, fermenting naturally using native yeasts (as in biodynamics). Natural wines see no input during all vinification and aging. Only minimum doses of SO2 are permitted (30 mg/L maximum), and must be mentioned by the winemaker. No brutal filtration or wine alteration techniques are permitted. We also find the name SAINS Wines which aims to completely prohibit the use of sulphites.

We strive to offer you wines from artisan wines, from estates on a human scale and often family-owned. And that's why we take the time to travel across France from vineyard to vineyard in search of these natural wines that thrill us.
We are particularly keen to introduce you to the new winegrowers of tomorrow who work tirelessly to offer us magnificent wines.
